Dear Visitors,
Welcome to
the Piedmont Hills High School Interact Club Web Page. First,
please allow me to introduce myself. My name is Nhu-Y Le, and
Im the Co-President of PHHS Interact Club. Second, I would
like to thank you for visiting our Web Page. Im very proud
to be able to introduce to you the PHHS Interact Club. On this
Web Page, you will find out about the establishment of our club
as well as our purpose.
PHHS
Interact Club is an organization on school campus that is made up
of approximately 140 students/members. This number also includes
nine Executive Club Officers. The job of each officer is to
conduct the weekly members meeting, and to plan and schedule
various activities. The officers of the club must attend an
Officer Meeting every Monday afternoon. The information that is
discussed on Monday afternoons is then passed onto the members on
Wednesday. The regular Members Meetings are held every
Wednesday during lunch time in room D-13. At these meetings
members will find out the upcoming events that the club has
commited itself to do.
On the PHHS
campus, Interact Clubs advisor is Mr. Dale Hopper. Mr.
Hopper is a chemistry teacher, and has been the advisor of
Interact Club for two consecutive years. In addition, PHHS
Interact Club is sponsored by the San Jose East Rotary Club. Due
to our location, PHHS Interact Club belongs to area #6 and is
within the District 5170. Interact itself, is not only a local
establishment but it is also an international establishment.
There are many Interact Clubs that exist around the world. As a
result, each Interact Club is encouraged to focus its service
energy in a broader view.
All
Interact Clubs have only one purpose, and that is to serve the
community. We are encouraged to serve under the motto of
"Service Above Self." It is always better to give than
to receive. Interact members are motivated to give back to their
community as much if not more than what their community has given
to them. Because of Interact Club's international standing, its
members are encouraged to view the world as their community.
Therefore, each Interact Club not only focus its service energy
to its local community, but also internationally. Interact
Club as a whole, focuses its energy on five different service
areas. These five areas are school, community, fundraising,
environmental, and international. These diverse focus areas give
the members a chance to enjoy their volunteer hours with a
variety of things to do.
PHHS
Interact Club in particular is a strong on going organization in
its area. Students who sign up to be part of the club do not
automatically become a member. In order to become an official
PHHS Interact Club Member, each member must fill out, turn in,
and pay a club fee on time. In addition, each member must sell at
least one box of candy per school semester. Each member also must
attend at least 75% of the members meetings and at least
four activities per school semester. At the end of each school
semester, those that made it to be an official member are awarded
with an Interact Club card and pin. Those that that did not make
it, must re-do all the qualification steps again if they wish to
be an official member by the end of the second school semester.
After the
first semester, PHHS Interact Club had over two-thirds of its
members became the clubs official members. The successful
number is due to the members response to sign up for
activities, and their enthusiasm to serve. Each of the members
has shown the true spirit of "Service Above Self." As
the Co-President, Im very proud to be able to represent a
group of young people who are always willing to help and give.
Im also very honored to be able to serve side by side with
my Co-President, Ai-Fen Shieu and our other Executive Officers.
As you
browse through this web page, you will see the many wonderful and
fun activities that the PHHS Interact Club has done. The pictures
definitely speak for themselves. This is also very helpful for
members to keep themselves updated with upcoming activities as
well as past ones. This page is regularly updated by the
clubs Co-Webmasters, Scott Campbell and Puneet Khattar.
They have done such a wonderful job on this web page. I hope that
you will enjoy looking through this web page as much as I do.
Take care.
Truly,
Nhu-Y Le, Co-President
